The concern
The patient came to our NYC clinic looking for fuller, more defined lips. Her natural lip shape was on the slimmer side, with a soft cupid's bow and less definition along the vermillion border than she wanted. She had been considering lip filler for a while but was nervous about ending up with anything that looked overdone, obviously treated, or out of proportion with the rest of her face. She wanted more — but she still wanted them to look like her lips.
The consultation
Samantha assessed the patient's natural lip proportions, resting shape, and how the lips moved when she spoke and smiled. The clinical decision was to focus on volume in the body of the lip while sharpening definition along the vermillion border and cupid's bow. Symmetry was a particular focus — the lower lip needed slightly more product than the upper to keep the natural proportion balanced. A second session was discussed as an option down the line if the patient wanted further enhancement, but the plan was to stay conservative on the first treatment and review.
The treatment
The appointment took around 30 minutes from start to finish, including numbing time. Lip filler was administered using a combination of needle and cannula technique to place product accurately and minimise bruising. The patient left the clinic the same day with mild swelling, which settled within 24 to 48 hours.
Results at two weeks
The after photograph shows a fuller, more defined lip shape with a sharper cupid's bow and improved border definition. The proportions between the upper and lower lip are balanced, the smile line is preserved, and the lips read fuller without looking overdone. The result is enhanced but still natural — the patient looks like a more polished version of herself rather than someone who has had lip filler.
