The concern
The patient came to our Brickell City Center clinic looking for fuller, more plump lips that still looked like her own. Her natural lip shape was on the medium-sized side with moderate existing volume, and she wanted to enhance what she already had rather than significantly change her lip shape. Improving hydration was also a priority, alongside softening some of the fine vertical lines that had developed on the lip surface. She was clear about what she wanted and what she didn't. She wanted a visible, noticeable improvement, but she didn't want anything that read as overdone or that changed her natural lip shape.
The consultation
Susan assessed the patient's existing lip volume, shape, and surface texture. The clinical decision was to use one full syringe of Restylane Kysse rather than a half syringe, and the reasoning was specific to this patient. For a patient with naturally medium-sized lips and moderate existing volume, a half syringe likely would have produced an underwhelming result, not enough product to properly enhance the lips or smooth the surface lines the patient wanted addressed. A half syringe also would not have lasted as long, because the smaller dose would metabolise more quickly. A full syringe gave Susan enough product to deliver visible, balanced enhancement while still preserving the patient's natural lip shape, and would produce a longer-lasting result. Restylane Kysse was selected specifically because it provides moderate volume while maintaining a soft, natural-looking finish. The product's flexibility is well-suited to patients who want fuller lips without a firm or visibly treated appearance.
The treatment
The appointment took around 30 minutes from start to finish, including numbing time. One full syringe of Restylane Kysse was administered using a combination of needle and cannula technique to place product accurately and minimise bruising. The patient left the clinic the same day with mild swelling, which settled within 24 to 48 hours.
Results at two weeks
The two-week photograph shows fuller, more plump lips with improved surface smoothness and a softer, more hydrated overall appearance. The patient's natural lip shape has been preserved. The cupid's bow and lip border are more defined, the vertical lines on the lip surface have softened, and the proportions between the upper and lower lip remain balanced. The result is enhanced and visibly different, but reads as the patient's lips on a good day, not a different set of lips.
