The concern
The patient came to our Brickell City Center clinic with a specific concern: the lines running from the sides of her nose to the corners of her mouth — known as the nasolabial folds — had become more pronounced over time. She felt they were making her look tired and a little drawn. She didn't want her face to look fuller or different. She wanted the folds softened so they read less prominently — and a refreshed overall look that still felt entirely like her.
The consultation
Susan assessed the patient's full lower face, not just the folds themselves. Nasolabial folds are often the most visible sign of something happening further up the face — typically a loss of structural support in the cheek that allows the mid-face to descend slightly, deepening the folds at rest. The clinical decision was to treat the folds directly with a small amount of dermal filler to soften the line, while focusing the majority of the product higher up in the cheek to restore the structural support that was driving the appearance of the folds. Treating the cause as well as the symptom produces a longer-lasting, more natural result than filling the folds alone.
The treatment
The appointment took around 45 minutes from start to finish, including consultation and aftercare. Dermal filler was administered using a combination of needle and cannula technique to place product accurately and minimise bruising. The patient left the clinic the same day with mild swelling at the injection sites, which settled within 24 to 48 hours.
Results at two weeks
The after photograph shows visibly softer nasolabial folds and a refreshed lower face. The folds are no longer as pronounced at rest, the mid-face looks slightly more lifted, and the overall lower face reads smoother and more even. The patient retains her natural expression, smile line, and resting shape. Nothing about her face looks fuller or treated — only fresher.
