What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides, also known as polydeoxyribonucleotides, is the DNA structure derived from salmon sperm and has a huge regenerative effect on tissue allowing for increased production of elastin and collagen as well as increased tissue quality and density with the reduction of pigment. This revolutionary treatment is perfect for both rejuvenating mature skin and as a preventative treatment for younger skin, offering a versatile solution for all your skincare needs. Keep reading to discover the benefits, science behind this treatment, and what to expect during the procedure.

Your Questions
Answered By Your Doctor

What is polynucleotide treatment?

At Sisu Clinic, every treatment begins with a personalised consultation. Are you suitable for polynucleotide, or would dermal fillers or even surgery like blepharoplasty be more appropriate? If the polynucleotide is right for you, the procedure is quick, taking about 5-10 minutes with a tiny needle to inject just under the skin. You may notice some swelling, particularly in the under-eye area, which typically subsides within 24-48 hours.

How long does it take for polynucleotides to work?

Polynucleotide is not a one-hit-wonder; typically, patients need 3 to 4 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart, aligning with the skin's 30-day cell turnover cycle. Results begin to show about 2 weeks after the first treatment and improve with each subsequent session. Younger, skin-conscious patients generally require three cycles, while we recommend four cycles for older patients or those with specific problem areas.

Are polynucleotides safe?

At our clinic, we prioritise your safety and well-being. Polynucleotide fillers are biocompatible, meaning they closely resemble materials your body tolerates well. They are derived from purified salmon DNA, minimising the risk of allergic reactions. Some clients may experience temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, but these typically subside within a few days. It's important to note that they are not suitable for individuals with fish allergies, vegetarians, or vegans due to their origin. The safety of polynucleotide treatments significantly relies on the injector's experience. A skilled practitioner ensures proper injection technique, minimising risks and optimising results. We encourage you to discuss any allergies or concerns you may have during your free consultation. We'll perform a thorough assessment to ensure polynucleotide injections are suitable for you.

Polynucleotide for under eye

Polynucleotides for the eye region are a safe and effective treatment to tackle poor quality crepey skin, dark circles, minor hollowing, not to mention those fine lines and wrinkles. Sounds like the holy grail of under eye treatments? You'd be right! Polynucleotides are an injectable treatment derived from the DNA fragments of salmon and trout, they carry a huge regenerative capacity that has been tried, tested and backed up with numerous studies. Many hail the advent of polynucleotides as the next evolution in the aesthetic medicine space. The regenerative era has arrived, meeting the treatment that can turn back the clock in one of the most problematic of areas and number one on the hit list of many of our Sisu Clinic patients.

Is the Polynucleotide treatment painful?

Polynucleotide treatment is generally well-tolerated and minimally invasive. During the procedure you may feel some mild pressure or stinging sensation during the injection, but this is usually brief and temporary. Our experienced team will work closely with you to ensure that you're comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire process.

Can you combine polynucleotides with other treatments?

In aesthetic medicine, benefits are twofold: compliments on your appearance and the effective synergy between treatments. Combining Anti-Wrinkle with polynucleotides offers a powerful refresh or a red-carpet look. Adding a tissue modulator like Hyaluronic acid-based Profhilo enhances this effect even further. Our patients report that this trio often leads strangers to inquire about their skincare routines—truly a testament!

Is there much down time after polynucleotide treatment?

With any injectable treatment, swelling and bruising may occur. Your doctor will advise if you are likely to bruise post-treatment. This can take anywhere from 5-10 days to resolve, and you can cover the area with makeup 24 hours after the treatment. For under-eye treatments using polynucleotides, expect swelling for 24-48 hours. This area has relatively thin skin, so swelling may appear more pronounced compared to other areas.

Where can Polynucleotides be used ?

Given their powerful regenerative effects, polynucleotides can be injected into several areas, including the face, neck, and under-eye areas. One of the most popular areas to treat and one that gives insanely great results is the undereye area. Crepey, wrinkled under-eye skin, you’ve met your match!
